Why did we choose to support Shake It Up?
Shane says:
A good mate of mine, Vaughan, was recently diagnosed with Parkinsons. Vaughan is a keen mountain biker like me (he reckons he's faster, think he's kidding himself!). Hes only in his early thirties, with a wife and 2 young children. This is a pretty scary diagnosis for him and his family. I really wanted to do something to support him. Theres not a lot I can do, Im no doctor or researcher, but I reckon I am pretty good at running (and sometimes riding!). So why not use my running and riding as a means to raise awareness and funds for Parkinsons research?!! After all, like the other 10,000 Parkinson's sufferers diagnosed before age 40, there's still time for Vaughan to be cured in his lifetime! So please help me out with my aim to raise $10,000 for Shake It Up, supporting finding a cure for Parkinsons, and in turn supporting my mate Vaughan! You can donate here. Who Is Shake It Up?The Shake it Up Australia Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2011 to promote and fund Parkinson's disease research in Australia.
The Foundation was setup in partnership with the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research to give Australians the opportunity to join the quest for a cure. Their mission is clear: to find the cure for Parkinson's disease. 100% of all funds donated to The Shake It Up Foundation are directed to medical research targeted at finding better treatments on a path to a cure (a pledge made possible by the founding directors’ commitment to fund all of the Foundation’s outgoings) All funds are directed to research conducted in Australia. Since establishment The Shake It Up Foundation has committed over $1.5 million to research projects. All funded research is assessed, validated and monitored by the Michael J Fox Foundation. |
