The Tassie Traverse - The Dates and Route
Here's a rough overview of the route Shane will be taking. Please see notes below for further details.
Wednesday 26th March 2014 - Woolnorth to Smithton (approx)
Starting at the northern-most point of Tassie, Woolnorth (private property), Shane will run approx 50kms along dirt roads and dis-used railway tracks.
Overnight near Smithton with the crew.
Thursday 27th March - Smithton to Sisters Beach (approx)
Today Shane will run approx 55kms along dirt roads, main roads and dis-used railway tracks.
Overnight near Sisters Beach with crew.
Friday 28th March- Sisters Beach to Penguin (approx)
Today Shane will run approx 45kms along dirt roads, main roads and dis-used railway tracks.
Overnight in Penguin with crew.

Thursday 27th March - Smithton to Sisters Beach (approx)

Friday 28th March- Sisters Beach to Penguin (approx)
Today Shane will run approx 45kms along dirt roads, main roads and dis-used railway tracks.
Overnight in Penguin with crew.
Saturday 29th March - Penguin-Cradle Trail
Today he joins the Penguin to Cradle Trail, and will run approx 40km on single marked and unmarked tracks.
Overnight on trail with crew.
Sunday 30th March - Penguin-Cradle Trail
Continue along Penguin to Cradle trail, approx 40kms to Cradle Mountain tourist area.
Overnight at Cradle Mountain with crew
Today he joins the Penguin to Cradle Trail, and will run approx 40km on single marked and unmarked tracks.

Sunday 30th March - Penguin-Cradle Trail
Continue along Penguin to Cradle trail, approx 40kms to Cradle Mountain tourist area.

Monday 31st March - Overland Track
Support Crew Richelle’s birthday!!!! Oh and Shane will be running too.....
Big day today – the Overland Track – approx 80kms. He will attempt to complete it in 1 big day, with a summit of Mt Ossa..
Overnight at Derwent Bridge with crew
Tuesday 1st April - Derwent Bridge to Wayatinah (approx)
He will run approx 30km through private property, then along fire trail along the east bank of Lake King William to Butlers Gorge. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to ride a MTB alongside him. THen along the road to Wayatinah, or close to.

Big day today – the Overland Track – approx 80kms. He will attempt to complete it in 1 big day, with a summit of Mt Ossa..

Tuesday 1st April - Derwent Bridge to Wayatinah (approx)
He will run approx 30km through private property, then along fire trail along the east bank of Lake King William to Butlers Gorge. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to ride a MTB alongside him. THen along the road to Wayatinah, or close to.

Wednesday 2nd April - Wayatinah to Adamsfield Track via Florentine Rd
Today he has a long boring run along Florentine Rd, a hilly forestry road to the Adamsfield Track start, approx 40kms. This leg is great for biking too.
Overnight at Maydena with crew
Thursday 3rd April - Adamsfield Track/Sawback Track - Scotts Peak Dam Rd
Today he pulls on his kevlar pants, as its a big bush bash along the Adamsfield track, the possibility of a big swim across the Florentine River (if he can find it!), then a trek along the Sawback Track to its junction with the Gordon River Rd!
As an added bonus, he will consider a stop at the Florentine Camp, the famous Tassie anti-logging activist camp!
Overnight at Maydena with crew - this is his last chance for a comfy bed and a shower for 5 days!
Friday 4th April - Scotts Peak Dam Rd
Today he will be happy to run his last road run of the trip – around 34kms along the Scotts Peak Rd to Scotts Peak Dam.

Its time to set off into the true wilderness of Southern Tasmania – the Port Davey Track. About 40km today of mostly single track adventures.

Sunday 6th April - Port Davey Track
Today he will finish the last 40km of the Port Davey Track at Melaluca.
A place that can only be described as the bottom of the world, the only way in is by boat or plane!
Richelle is planning on flying in to meet him here with some fresh food, and a change of clothes.

Monday 7th April - South Coast Track
Today starts the famous Tasmanian South Coast Track. Today entails approx. 40km of muddy, boggy goodness, with a rowboat river crossing or 2!

Tuesday 8th April - - South Coast Track
Last day! Party time!
Today Shane will finish off the last 40km of the South Coast Track, with a small diversion through the dense scrub (described by Parks Tas as “impassable coastline”) to bag the southern-most point, the South East Cape. His official finish point will be at Cockle Creek.
